Ian McFarland creates a bright & airy LP, "Almost There"
Putting his own spin on an indie rock sound, Ian McFarland has beyond succeeded on his latest record, Almost There. Please read on for our in-depth look at the album, in addition to a background on this immensely talented artist.
Released officially on March 18th, 2022, Manhattan-based singer and multi-instrumentalist Ian McFarland has shared his second full length LP, Almost There. Featuring bright and airy passages that make you feel like you’re floating on a cloud, this record is an exuberant ride from start to finish. It’s taken a genre that so desperately needed a revitalization and effortlessly filled the void. Luckily for the readers, the record is out now and we overwhelmingly recommend a listen as soon as possible.
Coming in at ten total tracks, spanning right around twenty six minutes in length, we particularly enjoyed that the album didn’t overstay its welcome. We found it to be the perfect bite-sized full length that presented its unique ideas without dragging on to unnecessary lengths. In the streaming world where everything feels as it’s disposable, it’s shorter form records like this that will have us coming back undoubtedly for repeated listens and a massive jolt of energy that Almost There serves up.
While Ian has claimed that the opener “Plus One To Heaven” is some of his best work yet, we won’t deny it, but don’t believe that the rest of the record isn’t filled to the brim with gems. It’s a wonderful opener as it creates an atmosphere that follows, but it also lets the listener in on what to expect. Particularly, “Love Lines” and “Always On My Mind” were quite memorable too, but really the cohesiveness of the record makes it deserving of an uninterrupted listen all the way through. From an instrumentation perspective, Ian has shown off his chops on the guitar, but really the entirety of the song structures are fresh and original. Legitimately, there isn’t a single thing we could point out to change, this one feels flawless and deserving of the praise.
