Released officially on December 22nd, 2020, Hookz Murdock treated the world to his all new single, “Dunder Mifflin Freestyle”. Please do yourselves a favor and read along with us for our full review of the track, as well as a background on the artist.

At 28, Hookz Murdock has been navigating the NYC underground Hip-Hop scene for years. Formally of the group Sha’ir (Sha-ear), Hookz branched out on his own in 2013 & hasn’t looked back since. Featuring sharp and witty lyricism, smooth flows, and a dash of singing, Hookz pulls influence from artists like Jay Z, Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, Outkast, Maroon 5, Frank Ocean, J. Cole & Pink Floyd,

What you’ll notice nearly immediately is that Hookz has crafted a diverse sound for himself that is dedicated to reaching the pallets of hardcore Hip-Hop fans, casual listeners of the genre & everyone else in between. On “Dunder Mifflin Freestyle” specifically, at only 2 and a half minutes in length, the artist absolutely jam packed a ton of ideas, clever lines, and stunning background beats into a superbly produced song. Although we have to be a bit honest, we were under the assumption that the song would be a freestyle dedicated to NBC’s The Office, but it was more of an original, which was still great in its own right.

With that all being said though, we still truly loved this freestyle. It’s quick, to the point, and as a classic Hip Hop fan, pulled directly from some of his highly notable influences listed above. His flow was unreal and super smooth. A problem that we tend to run into on freestyles just like these are that sometimes it becomes difficult to process the lyrics as they’re being muffled or delivered too fast. Hookz has perfectly executed a way that that’s not a problem in the slightest. You can hear him and make out everything he’s saying, which in part amplifies the greatness of the track.

Lastly, after listening, we had no choice but to go back and listen to some of Hookz’ past releases for this year, this may just be the best thing he’s put out yet. We’re thrilled his music has come our way and we’re seriously looking forward to more coming in the New Year!
