Heather Youmans shines bright on single, "A Little Closer to Happy"

With her second released single of 2021, Heather Youmans has come firing back with an impeccable performance, titled “A Little Closer To Happy”. Read along with us as we share our complete thoughts on the track, as well as a background on the artist as well.

Based out of Los Angeles, Heather Youmans is a singer, songwriter, bassist, actress, and critically-acclaimed vocalist who has swept us off our feet with the release of her newest single, “A Little Closer To Happy”. Taking direct influences from the likes of HAIM, Kelly Clarkson, Fiona Apple, and more, Heather’s aim is to craft honest and uplifting music with a positive message. In our eyes, she’s beyond succeeded in that task.

Having written and recorded original music that’s been featured in Forbes, Parade Magazine, and the LA Times, Heather’s stock continues to rise with each subsequent single she shares. On this single in particular, its origins are “the next chapter in her pursuit of happiness, as she continues to spread optimism and positive energy to fans.”

We’ll be honest here, this was our first foray into the music of Heather Youmans, but after quickly falling in love with not only this song but the rest of her output, you can consider us fans for life. In tough times like these, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find music that not only sounds good, but makes you feel good as well. After listening multiple times to “A Little Closer to Happy”, it quickly became clear that she’s checking all of our personal boxes for what we like in our music.

Blending bits of pop, alternative, and rock into one memorable performance is what we’ve gathered here on this near three and a half minute track. Lyrically it looks within and Heather has put out her life experiences for those to extrapolate from. Speaking on the production side of things, this was such a well rounded and crisp sounding track. The budding instrumentation building in the background provided a perfect base to build off. However, the obvious star of the show were Heather’s heavenly vocals. Even if this were just an a cappella version of the track we’d be impressed, but with everything else circulating in the background, it shaped up to be a total winner.

What we’d really like to see going forward from the artist is a cohesive set of songs in the form of an EP or even a full length. Don’t get us wrong, we’ll take all the singles we can get, but it feels like there’s a much bigger story to be told, and the perfect medium would be a collection of songs to explain it all. No rush to the artist though, we know these things take time. In the meantime, we’ll just be endlessly streaming “A Little Closer to Happy”.
