Gregory Zamir fuses multiple genres on his outstanding new EP, Red Light Mood

Released recently on July 24th, 2020, Gregory Zamir has finally shared his newest EP with the world, titled Red Light Mood, Read along with us as we provide our thoughts on the record, as well as a bit of background on the artist himself.
Currently based out of Los Angeles, California, Gregory Zamir is the perfect blend of the old & new school. His earliest musical training came from his family and singing gospel in his father’s church. The family introduced Gregory to all genres of music from Mozart, Rufus and Chaka Khan, The Hawkins and everything in between. Gospel & Soul music had a profound influence on him growing up and he’s maintained that connection in his own music. A modern twist on a classic sound, blending groves, and with a superb sense of musicality his music connects that old school vibe to the new school world through a unique soundscape. He invites listeners to take a journey that expresses his connection, both emotionally and nostalgically, to the world through music.
Coming in at a total of 3 overall songs at a runtime of 10 minutes, Red Light Mood is an extremely diverse EP consisting of multiple genres spanning decades of unique sound. At its base, it feels like a fairly straightforward R&B album, but as you listen more and let the music through you, you’ll slowly start to notice the subtleties. Our immediate first impressions were how high quality the sound production came through. Listening on a nice pair of headphones and letting the bass flow through us was an absolute highlight. The subtle effects from sound layering to instruments you didn’t even know were there show themselves as you listen closer.
The very obvious highlight that you’ll notice almost immediately is just how smooth Gregory’s vocals are on each and every track. Our personal favorite vocal track and delivery was on “Milk & Honey” where there’s so much range in what the artist brings to the table. While it’s always hard to pick out a favorite song on short EP’s like these, we’ll just go ahead and highly recommend you take the 10 minutes out of your day and listen to all three. You can be the judge for yourself.
As far as instrumentation goes, the EP closer “Ocean Deep” features a set of synthesizers that were programmed to sound like lasers shooting from channel to channel. For the moments that it appears on the track, there’s nothing more that we’d want other than a full length album filled with sounds just like that. Seeing as this was our first foray into the music of Gregory Zamir, we sincerely hope it won’t be our last. Considering we’re also Los Angeles-based, we hope to catch a show of his in the future, and if he’s coming to a city near you, this isn’t a set you’d want to miss.
With that being said, if you’re looking for a thoroughly enjoyable highly creative and unique set of songs, this is the EP for you. Go ahead and get listening!
