Goldminds unleash their eccentric and powerful debut album, "Signals"

Review by Austin Sher

Released today on October 2nd, 2020, Melbourne-based rock band, Goldminds, have finally shared their impressive debut album, Signals. Do yourselves a favor and read along with us for our thoughts on the record, in addition to a bit of background on the group as well.

Before we get into the music though, it’s always best to familiarize yourself with the history of the project. What you’ll need to know about Goldminds that they are a huge ball of energy waiting to explode. Well, they did it, they absolutely exploded with the release of this album that we haven’t been able to stop listening to since we got our ears on it. You can expect a heavy dose of garage rock, an eclectic mix of instrumentation, and commanding vocals that just won’t quit.

Goldminds wasted zero time in creating their own wild sound. The singer, Courtney Constantinou, is unapologetic, lawless and commanding, delivering her message with finesse and fury. Born not with a silver spoon in their mouth but a hot knife in their hand, Goldminds have been ‘kicking up the dirt’ from floors in loungerooms, dive bars, and iconic music venues across the city since 2019. With the arrival of COVID-19 stopping the rock n roll industry in its tracks, the band have been circling their cages like hungry lions waiting for their next meal.

While it might be an overly difficult time for an album release of any kind, we’re still unbelievably excited that the group chose this time. While the world can seem chaotic on a daily basis, it’s music like this that somehow calms down the situation. It’s abrasive in the sense that it makes you pay attention. One soaring and shredding guitar lick after the other, big booming drums, ripping basslines, and the always impressive vocal delivery quickly gave us the seal of approval that Signals is an absolute must listen.

At this point, we’re just happy Goldminds came into our lives before they blow up too big. With an album and sound like this, it’s only a matter of time until their world tour begins and music fans everywhere are familiar with their rocking ways. With this all being said though, we think you’re better off stopping reading this and fire up your speakers to listen!
