Goldie Boutilier & Chilly Gonzales break new ground on eclectic single, "He Thinks That I'm An Angel"
An eclectic blend of styles for something that works together perfectly, Goldie Boutilier has truly outdone herself on her newest single, “He Thinks That I'm An Angel". Keep reading as we break down the entirety of the EP, as well as provide a background on this emerging artist.
With her influences and inspirations right up at the forefront, Goldie Boutilier has still gone above and beyond in creating something ultimately unique on her single, “He Thinks That I'm An Angel" that also features Chilly Gonzales. While the original was released back in April, the two have reworked it for something a little more stripped back and intimate. Leading directly with her vocals which embody the range and attitude of a prime Stevie Nicks, this track takes the listener on a sonic journey through sounds, evocative moods, and clever storytelling that legitimately has you on the edge of your seats from song to song. Needless to say, it’s something we’re highly recommending for everyone to listen to when it releases tomorrow (9/8/22).
Goldie creates with a goal in mind to seek her own individuality, whether it be through her music or just generally being a thought leader within her genre. Originally from Cape Breton, Canada, beginning her musical career in Los Angeles, and now firmly stationed in Paris, we wholeheartedly agree that her vast world view and experiences has directly led to the inspired mix of music you’re about to hear. At just five songs in length, Goldie does an impeccable job of playing with emotion not just through her vocals, but also in the song composition of these works to really create an atmosphere that doesn’t just hinge on flashy instrumentals or crisp production.
Now while there are certainly elements of that, so much of what we enjoyed about this was its ability to consistently push the envelope and think outside the box. You get lured in with the slow burner of “He Thinks That I’m An Angel”, but things quickly begin to escalate and speed up as the record goes on. We couldn’t help but feel that there’s a real classic and slightly vintage charm about this record too, slightly even cabaret at times as well. Goldie’s whole demeanor feels very old soul yet the modern feeling that the song holds makes it perfect for literally any type of music listener. Whether you’re trying to feel glimmers of the past or take a glimpse into the future, she’s got you covered.
