Global Antics mesmerizes on captivating debut album, "The High Road"
Going under a new moniker for an album titled The High Road, the project of Global Antics has sincerely surpassed all of our wildest expectations on a grand scale. Do yourselves a favor and keep reading for a closer look into the record, as well as a background on this artist.
From the mind of Carlos Williams comes a full length album of tracks that show more of an alternative side to the artist. You might be familiar with his past work in Downfall, but this batch of songs ultimately didn’t really feel like they belonged under that name. Fast forward to now and he’s served up this record called The High Road under a name, Global Antics, that has certifiably turned out to be a riveting listening experience. If you’re unfamiliar with this artist as a whole, this is the perfect entry point into the rest of his work.
With help on a few tracks from his wife Sarah (Sezzle) and even a feature from one of our personal favorite artists Brooke Casey, it’s hard to deny that The High Road is bursting with originality and freshness. As it was 100% produced, mixed, and mastered by Carlos, the attention to detail in that realm hasn’t escaped us. In fact, it’s definitely one of the main drivers to our love for this record as listening with a nice pair of headphones should be a mandatory part of your personal listening. He’s managed to infuse some tasteful electronic elements into these soundscapes, which particularly popped the most on tracks like “Dread”, “Incognito”, and the title track “The High Road”.
As far as the messaging goes, he’s purposely left a lot of the lyricism up to interpretation however you’d like to connect the dots. However, there are some songs that dive into complex themes such as climate change, depression, and more. Additionally, it’s hard to not make direct comparisons to his work in Downfall, mainly because the sonic shift in genre is so massive. It’s not that we prefer one or the other, rather it’s beyond impressive that one human being is actually able to craft such diverse music at a high quality like this. Whether you enjoy rock or more synth-driven elements presented here, Carlos Williams has you covered.
Having been sitting on these songs for quite some time, we’re truly thrilled they’ve seen the light of day. Although some songs are newer than others, you still undoubtedly get that cohesive and signature album experience when clicking the play button and letting it run through seamlessly. Plain and simple, we love it, and we’re urging everyone to click the links below to listen, follow along, and of course to keep up with all future releases.
