Giraffe tear it up on phenomenal new EP, "Fauna"

On their newest EP titled Fauna, Giraffe have completely blown us away on every corner of the record. We are loving this one! Please read on for our full review of the record, as well as a much needed background on the band.

Made up of Gayle Davidson, Drew Sherrod, and Dr. Capital, Giraffe are a relatively new project that are effortlessly putting a much needed spin on the indie rock genre. With roots all over the world, their sound certainly emulates and features influence globally. We instantly fell in love with Fauna not even halfway through it and confidently feel that you’ll love it the same.

Taking a look through the dark times of 2020, the band describe Fauna as a selfish record in the sense that it’s meant for the people and not the industry; a love letter to the misunderstood. Now as mind blowingly vibrant in sound and style that the record is, we also implore all the listeners out there to make the deep connections within the lyricism and actually take a moment to focus on the lyrics. Pull your direction away from Gayle’s stellar vocal delivery and try to connect the dots on the clever messages within.

At just 5 songs, spanning right around 22 minutes in runtime, Giraffe has put forward the best version of themselves that features zero filler whatsoever. Right from the get go on the opener “Kill Them”, the band throws the listener into the deep end with a wall of sound that impresses on all instrumental fronts. With bombastic drums, soaring riffs, and inventive bass lines, we felt after our initial listen that we needed to go back in and try to pick apart every specific instrument to really appreciate the musicianship.

With all that being said though, Giraffe are the real deal, and this EP has solidified a place in our collective hearts going forward. They’ve turned us into fans on just one record and now we’re personally looking towards the future for whatever greatness releases in the coming months and years. To put it bluntly, you’d be a fool not to click play on Fauna.
