emoty stirs up another summertime jam, "History"
On his first single of 2021, and second single overall, empty has put together a song perfect for the summertime. Please read along with us for our full featured review of the track, in addition to a background on the blossoming artist.
Tyler Dozier, also known as emoty, is a Denver-based hip-pop artist who is crafting striking music with complex and strong messages. On his sophomore single “History”, he enlisted producer Madilla to help out with this track that goes over topics like self-reflection and the observation of society as a whole. Considering he’s fresh to the music scene, it’s songs like these that are guaranteeing his voice being heard.
As a whole, emoty is aiming to relate to the listeners “who have ever felt the need to put their best self forward on a date”. Keeping away from the flashy and materialistic, this artist is keeping it real not only in his own personal life, but in his music as well. At just a little over three minutes in run time, “History” says a lot more about this musician than he probably though, but in the most positive way possible.
From top to bottom, this single is an absolute groove. You may have noticed at the beginning when we labeled him as hip-pop, well, that’s because it’s exactly what this is. What you can expect on “History” are a series of innovative beats, funky rhythmic bass lines, and a whole lot of masterful flow coming from a talented musician. Comparing and contrasting from his debut “Me, You or Cupid?”, there are certainly some differences in stylistic choices, but you can still sense all the originality.
Another thing we have to point out about this track is the stunning amount of genre-influence and inclusion featured throughout. At times it feels like it has a Caribbean vibe, but then goes back to a sort of club beat, and then pivots to something else all the while it being the same sound. We simply loved the samples and instrumentation being spliced together, we honestly think that was the best part to really show off its uniqueness.
Wrapping it all up though, it should be quite obvious that we are highly recommending a listen to emoty’s “History”. Get into it and listen below!
