Review by Austin Sher
Doloman has officially released his debut album, This Is Something…, and let us tell you that we loved what we heard! Read along for our review of the record, in addition to some background on the artist himself.
Doloman is blending elements from a variety of genres and sounds, For those who may be unaware, Doloman began his music career in Houston, Texas, but now resides and creates his art in Asheville, NC. This is Something... is his debut studio album that was released this past summer, which explores concepts on societal issues, self-love, loneliness and a drive for success.
Currently, Doloman is releasing a new track every Friday, so subscribe to his Soundcloud and follow him on Instagram (links below) to not miss a song. With each song release, he’s continually blending sounds from different genres and subgenres including acoustic, electronic, and metal. In Doloman's words, "I'm just making music I vibe with and hope you do too, and maybe you can find something in the music that helps you or just makes your day better. Love you, love yourself."
Coming in at a runtime of 50 minutes, spanning 16 total tracks, there is literally something for everyone on this album. It features so many different elements, genres, and themes within the record that it would be hard for you to listen and not enjoy at least some of it. At its base though, it’s in the genre of hip hop, but also features some sweet guitar riffs, booming drums, and of course the smooth flow of Doloman himself.
Seriously though, and we can’t stress this enough, this is one of the most thought provoking and sonically impressive albums that has come our way in a while. While it would be tough to pick out a favorites, because the whole thing is fire from start to finish, we were particularly fond of the album opener “Test”, “Finally”, “Digital Dab”, and “Average Joe”. This isn’t to say the rest of the record wasn’t worth mentioning, but wow, these tracks really took it to the next level and prepared you for what was to come.
As for Doloman’s weekly song releases, that’s also something you need to keep your eyes on! As mentioned, all relevant links to follow along with Doloman’s genius are located below. With this all being said, it’s time to listen to the album.
