Dad Junior shares his signature laidback sound on album, "Dorthy"

Staying incredibly consistent with his releases, there seems to always be an element of surprise when Dad Junior shares a new record. In this case, he’s done just that, and the final product was fantastic! Read on for our full review of Dorthy.

We’ve reviewed him in this past and will continue to do so, mainly because the music is so exhilarating and fresh. Dad Junior’s latest piece of artistry is called Dorthy and marks his 7th overall record. Right off the bat, let us get it out of the way that this is 100% an album you should be checking out. Take our word for it, this guy’s the real deal.

Putting his multi-instrumentalist skills to work always, Dorthy comes in at a succinct 9 total tracks at right around 20 minutes in length. It gets right to the point in its mood and demeanor, but ultimately embodies chillhop and shoegaze, to create what the artist is calling dreamy daze. As equal lovers of both genres, we didn’t quite know how the mashup would work, however it’s everything we could have hoped for and more. There isn’t a bad track present, and in fact, everyone felt different than the last.

Featuring some choice vocal samples to further add depth to the sound, Dad Junior introduces you to everything on opener “Years” that pretty much sets the tone for what you can expect on the rest of the listen. Spliced in with unique dream beats, inventive bass lines, and a lofi aesthetic, this is one of the records we can imagine ourselves throwing on at the end of the day to unwind. Specifically, tracks like “I Don’t Give A Fuck”, “Belly of the Feast”, and “Why Man” stood out to us. However, we still recommend you click the play button at the beginning and let it run through untouched.

It’s honestly been such a pleasure and a wild journey to be able to review these records every 6 months or so as they see a release. Dad Junior has been easily one of the most consistent artists that’s come our way and we’re out here hoping 2022 proves to be an even more successful year. If this is your introduction to his music, you might as well start from the beginning, because there’s plenty of gems to uncover.

With that being said, please don’t waste this opportunity to discover something you love. All things Dad Junior can be found below. Make sure to follow along too to keep up!
