Here with their long awaited debut EP, Cutting Loose have officially released Nothing Left. It wasn’t difficult to be impressed with it either! Read along for our full review of the record, in addition to some background on the band.

Dating back to late 2017 with just three members, this band from Queens, NY, started off with guitarists Brian Mulroy, Anthony (Bones) Debona, and drummer Jimmy Swisher who jammed together until the additions of bassist Ray Nunez and vocalist John Raffa in late 2019. Together they have created a unique classic rock sound influenced by bands such as Led Zeppelin, Cream, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. These boys aim to contribute to the Rock n' Roll revival that is going on.

As far as a Rock n’ Roll revival goes, Nothing Left is certainly on the right track to making that happen! Coming in at 6 tracks, spanning a 26 minute runtime, this is pure rock at its absolute finest. Just like the band described, you can so clearly hear the influences of Led Zeppelin and Red Hot Chili Peppers on the record, especially within the vocal delivery, inventive bass lines, and overall funkiness.

Although it’s only 6 songs, we certainly had our favorite tracks that are still standing out to us. If for some reason you can’t find 26 minutes in your day, you’ll at least have to check out the EP opener “Inside of You”, the title track “Nothing Left”, and “Downtown Love” for a healthy dose of Zeppelin and shredding guitar. Having favorites isn’t to say the rest of the EP was lacking, because it wasn’t, but we came away loving those the most.

Seeing as this was our first foray into the band’s music, we can confidently say that it will not be our last. We hope it’s only a matter of time until touring can happen again in the US and we can witness it all live. Personally, I can only imagine that live versions of these songs were how they were intended to be played and heard. The energy that Nothing Left live could potentially bring would be unmatched to anything we’ve seen in a while. The moment a tour is announced, we’ll be grabbing tickets!
