Crystal Drake lights it up on newest album, "Sirens"

Freshly released on September 3rd, 2021, Crystal Drake has just put forth her simply soulful album, Sirens. Strap in for our glowing review of the record, as well as a refresher on the artist.

Bursting with soul and Crystal Drake’s emotionally charged vocals, we’ve quickly come to enjoy every single moment of her newest album, Sirens. Inspired by the seventeenth-century Venetian all-female music ensemble of virtuosic orphans named the Figlie Del Coro "Daughters of the Choir”, this record aims to celebrate the power in feminine identity. Do yourselves a huge favor and dive into this lovely world that Crystal has created.

At 10 total songs, spanning just around 26 imagery-filled minutes, Crystal Drake quickly sucks in the listener on her opener “Upstream” which gives an all encompassing introduction to her sound. One thing that we’ll point out right at the beginning is that we highly recommend listening on a nice pair of headphones or sound system in order to really have the subtleties come across. The production on this record was out of this world and there’s plenty of impressive effects that you might miss otherwise. The literal atmospheric world she’s shape shifted here is nothing short of amazing.

As beautiful and empowering as the record was, it feels like there were seemingly an infinite amount of highlights for us. Every song took on a life of its own and became memorable, but at the same time, the cohesiveness of it all made for a perfect front to back listen. It all centers around Crystal Drake’s voice which definitely stole the show, but don’t count out every other facet of the album. Make an effort to connect the dots on the lyricism, mainly because there’s so much greatness to unfold.

Seeing as though Crystal’s release schedule has been so consistent, we’re already eagerly waiting for the follow up. If this is your introduction to the artist as a whole though, we suggest checking out the rest of her discography to really gain a grasp on how her sound has evolved too. There’s plenty of gems, you just need to discover them for yourself.
