With his first single release of 2021, Coolmowee has come storming back with a summer-read single titled “My Design is the Bassline”. We’ve instantly fallen in love! Read along for our track review, in addition to a refresher on the artist.

For those out of the loop, Coolmowee is the work of Maurice Edwards, a singer and songwriter who’s electropop project is turning heads all over the world. Putting his own spin on a classic 80’s synth pop-inspired sound, his latest track “My Design is the Bassline” is exactly the sound, feel, and vibe we were hoping he would take his sound.

You may remember not too long ago when we covered his single “Single All Summer”. That was our first introduction to the music of Coolmowee and we’ve been patiently waiting since August of 2020 for the followup. Thankfully he has delivered in the best way possible. On this newest single, there’s been a very fun evolution in sound. It’s still the same artist at the bass, but you can directly hear a more chillwave influence than anything else that’s been released to date.

Not coincidentally, but he has certainly put the bass in “My Design is the Bassline”. We felt like it was a really bass-forward track, however the clean atmospheric guitar tones looming in the background set the pace and vibe for it all. Realistically though, there’s a handful of instruments that did their fair share to make this song what it was, which is why we think the production has got to be the real standout. The expert skills that have rounded out the complete sound is the true winner.

As it begins to heat up quite a bit in our part of the world, this track could not have possibly come at a better time. While we’d never want to rush an artist into pushing out more uncompleted work, it’s sounds like these that are begging for follow ups as soon as humanly possible. We’d love to let Coolmowee DJ our summer as it feels like he knows exactly what mood we were going for.

There truly isn’t much else to say here except for the fact that it’s about time you dig into this track as fast as you can.
