Starting off the new year as strong as ever, Cody Steinmann has returned once again with another single, “Another Blues Head”. Keep reading as we share our in-depth thoughts on the track and take a closer look at this always evolving artist.

Keeping us on our toes consistently as he continues to revolutionize and experiment within his widely diverse sound, Cody Steinmann has crushed it again on his all new single, “Another Blues Head”. While this one is certainly a lot more jazz leaning than previous songs we’ve reviewed, it goes one step further and deepens the complexities within the style and so eloquently shows off the skills of him and his trio. Obviously, we’re recommending everyone take the time to sink in and make connections with a listen as soon as possible.

While this absolutely flew right over our heads, the title of the song is actually a joke amongst jazz musicians. Cody says, “you often hear the statements ‘let’s play Another Blues Head’ or ‘what’s Another Blues Head you know?’ Now every time someone says that they’ll have to play my tune”. Regardless of the message though, they should be listening because it’s a truly fantastic track. Coming in at 6 minutes total, it embodies the feeling of the rest of Cody’s music in that it immediately immerses you into a great deal of action happening all at once. Considering there’s just three musicians making that much noise and managing to vibe together all at once, impressive doesn’t even scratch the surface.

Weaving through dense patterns and lulling the listener into thinking it’s not all going to come back together, it’s almost as if you’re on pins and needles waiting for a resolve. Jazz music has that imperfect quality about it that makes us love it so much, essentially showing off that it can be rough around the edges, but dripping in uniquity. Cody continues to push the boundaries of his creations and show off his compositional skills in a way that’s sincerely tough to put into words sometimes. You can’t help but enjoy this with your jaw on the ground, simply mesmerized by all that’s happening. Through our many listens at this point, they’ve only become more fruitful with repeated spins!
