CJ Hammond debuts a moving performance on single, "Monster", featuring Sloane
While the music video has been out for a while now, CJ Hammond’s newest single “Monster” is finally seeing its official release. Do yourselves a favor and read along with us for our complete thoughts on the track, in addition to a background on the artist as well.
Originally from Denver, Colorado, CJ Hammond is now representing the Los Angeles music scene in which he’s bridging the gap between a variety of genres and sounds. On this newest single “Monster”, he’s enlisted some help from fellow artist Sloane, in which CJ is reflecting on a relationship that didn’t and will not work in the future. We are absolutely thrilled with this latest output.
Having been fortunate enough to work with award winning and nominated producers, writers, and musicians such as Mark Rodriguez, Nick Rosen, Arif Elahi, Andrew Joslyn, and Steven Felix, CJ is bringing his best to the table on each subsequent release. On “Monster” specifically, this is a direct and focused piece of beauty that instantly took us by hold. With the addition of Sloane’s piano build up, paired with CJ’s passionate vocals, the two have done a fantastic job at reflecting the growing frustration you have when there’s miscommunication.
When you add in the equation of a commanding vocal presence, delicately placed strings, and a moving piano ballad, you get a track like this that could honestly bring you to tears. Yes of course the instrumentation is moving and emotional, however, CJ’s vocal performance here is nothing short of amazing. Honestly, this could have been an a capella performance and still had the same kind of power behind it.
For a lyrically focused track like this one, you can only imagine as a casual listener that it must have been a massive weight off of the artist’s shoulders to take his pain and anguish and turn it into beauty like this. Now we’ll be honest, this was our first foray into the music of CJ Hammond, but it certainly won’t be our last. If this is the type of music and message he’s putting out there, then we really need as much as we can get.
Without a doubt, this is a song and artist that we’ll happily be following as long as he keeps putting out stunners like this one. We highly recommend you take the time out of your day to not only listen to the single, but check out the music video as well. It’s one thing to listen and hear the emotion come through, but to see it first hand along with the piano being played live, it brings it to a whole different level of greatness.
