As a writer, producer, and performer, he’s hit the mark once again with his newest single, “Cheap Thrills”. Offering listeners an edited and extended version, the extended being our preferred listen, you’re immediately hit with a wide array of synthesizers and captivating lyricism. If this is your introduction to the artist’s music, this is an ideal jumping off point to explore more.
Currently based out of Zürich, Switzerland, Chris Bourne has pushed himself into another realm of sound with “Cheap Thrills”. Right off the bat, you’re enveloped in a cavalcade of atmosphere, transporting yourself to the depths of a nightclub. This song is everything we love about electronic music, mainly in the way that it actually is resounding with emotion and suspense. The production featured is lovely, capitalizing on the subtle moments to add a nice and deep complexity, however we were also partial to the way that Chris’ voice carries the constant of it all. Depending on what kind of listener you are, you might be attracted to the pulsating beats driving the rhythm, but also the melodies that are presented are simply ingenious in the way that they complement the mix.
As mentioned, there’s two versions of this song, in which both are fantastic. For us though, we truly did feel that the extended version gives the opportunity for “Cheap Thrills” to breathe and ultimately go on to show off the production and greater highs. Each aren’t particularly long, but popping them on in a dance-fueled setting, it’s easy to imagine a club or a dancefloor exploding in glee as the songs hit their climax. From our perspective, we’ve got no notes whatsoever, it’s a great piece of pure artistry.
