chasing luma's Luke MacDonald shares background on his debut album - Interview

Fresh off the release of his highly anticipated debut album, we got the chance to speak with the frontman of chasing luma all about you need to water flowers for them to grow. Please check out our full interview below.

From the mind of Luke MacDonald comes his solo musical endeavor that he’s aptly titled chasing luma. After a series of successful singles, his debut record you need to water flowers for them to grow has finally arrived and it’s delivered beyond all expectations. Of course for every great piece of music comes a story behind its creation, process, and more. That’s why we had to bring Luke on to the podcast to give us a behind the scenes look on how it all came together, we highly recommend you give both our discussion and the album a listen as soon as possible.

What was originally around 70-80 demos according to Luke, got perfected and whittled down to the 8 tracks that you’re going to hear on this album. With so much more on the way hopefully within the next year, he’s really fine tuned something astounding for a first record. On the background of it all though, the lyricism claims to “explore some of life’s most challenging and fulfilling themes via alternative pop”. As a multi-instrumentalist, one thing everyone should know if how unbelievably impressive it is that everything you hear came from one person. Of course Luke has been playing for quite a while, but the dynamics of putting something together like this is downright amazing.

He also does a superb job of blending together genre, style, and atmosphere in the mix. While we think we could probably give this an umbrella label as “indie pop”, some of the insturmentals explore and blur the lines of so much else. It could potentially be the experimentation that we spoke about on future singles and records, but for now, we’ll be coming back for multiple listens just to try to break down everything we heard here. Luke also dropped some promising nuggets of information on the future in our chat, so once again, make sure to check that out whenever you can.
