Chariot Fade strike all the right chords on latest EP release
Review by Austin Sher
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s Chariot Fade are back with their first release in 2020, and let us be one of the first to tell you, this is an EP that is worth 100% of your time and attention.
While the group has only been active since October of 2019, they’ve already achieved such accomplishments such as opening for of Montreal, !!! (chk, chk, chk), and Yip Deciever. This comes to us as no surprise, considering putting out fantastic music should always equal success. Unfortunately that’s not always the case or outcome, but Chariot Fade is clearly making it work!
Now to the music, while it’s only 2 songs that were released in March of 2020, we’re considering it to be an EP, and a powerful one at that. The opener, “Tenderness Hits” kicks off with a series of ear pleasing horns and joined vocals. 30 seconds into the song and I’m hooked. The drumming is lovely and the piano plays a perfect background role in providing texture to the song. All throughout the track are harmonizing vocals that are sporadically peppered in and it fits beautifully. Needless to say, the song is an absolute jam and does a fantastic job of keeping the groove up through nearly the 4 minutes it runs. The song could be extended to 10 minutes with a proper jam thrown in there, mainly based off the outro.
Camel’s Eye, the second and last song on the “EP” is a slower, more thoughtful track we thought. Chariot Fade added the always necessary layer of a minor string section and it wonderfully adds a level of sophistication to the track. The vocals are really what stands out the most for me on the track. It’s easy to see where the song is going and by the end of the track, I definitely caught myself singing along.
I’m 100% certain that after listening, both of these songs instantly went into playlists and were sent out to friends who hadn’t made the discovery of Chariot Fade yet. What are you waiting for? Get listening!
