Brrgrr detail their highly relatable debut EP, "Distance" - Interview

Fresh off the release of their killer debut EP titled Distance, we got the wonderful opportunity to sit and speak with both the members Brrgrr. Without a doubt, this is an interview you’re not going to want to miss.

Currently based out of New Jersey, brothers Eli and Gabe Sashihara are making some super complex and experimental indie rock that we’ve quickly come to love. Sitting down and speaking to them all about Distance was a total treat, but really the ultimate gift they’ve given is their music. While of course we want you to check out our discussion, the real goal is to hit that play button on their record.

Created over the course of the last two years, Distance is a complete introspection and social commentary on the world at large. With tracks such as “COVID” and “Election Day”, you can probably take a good guess as to what’s being spoken about, however one of the main listening goals is to attempt to distance yourself from the media in order to not go crazy. Their EP is acting as a “musical time-capsule” and we know for the 100% fact we’ll be digging back into it for years to come. Not just because of the lyricism and ideas, but the music is legitimately amazing.

At just five songs in length, Brrgrr manages to show off exactly what they’re made of and capable within their expansive sound. Each song is a little world of its own, but the instrumentation is what kept our focus from start to finish. You’ll be pulled in by the groovy and inventive bass lines, but really every facet, nook, and cranny of Distance is filled with pure originality and love of the craft. Getting to hear exactly how it was made and who was involved was the true cherry on top for our love of the record.

This right here is an exquisite piece of indie rock and the passion that’s gone into it is palpable. The band has more on the way and we couldn’t be more thrilled at the notion that there will be a follow up eventually. One last thing that we’ll mention and recommend is that when you do listen, make sure to start from the beginning and let it flow through seamlessly. It’s a well thought out EP stylistically and deserves all the attention. Enjoy!
