At only 22 years old, Brianne Matthews is a Canada-based singer, songwriter, and multi-talented artist who’s no stranger to music in the slightest. Dipping her toes into music as a whole at the young age of 4 years old, she’s been developing her skills ever since and has built up quite the catalog over the years. On her newest release, “Christmas This Year”, she’s actually brought freshness to a niche genre that needed it so badly. Without a doubt, we’re urging everyone to give this a listen as soon as you can.

With an ultimate goal for this song to be “about the joyful time spent with family and friends during the Christmas season”, truly everything about this is bright, happy, and filled with vibrance. At right around three and a half minutes in runtime, immediately Brianne sets the tone of the song with a euphoria-inducing horns section, feeling as if you’ve been transported 100 years in the past. It quickly brought a smile to our collective faces as the intro played out, but once her silky smooth vocals entered the mix, that’s when things continued to display their complexity and depth. There’s a serious amount of lightheartedness and warmth emanating from Brianne’s voice, making it feel intimate in the setting and beyond fitting for the season.

To no surprise in the slightest, honestly this song is so unbelievably catchy in that it’s been stuck in our heads since the moment we discovered it. Year after year we hear the same 10 Christmas songs that get burned into your brain and feel played out, so you can only imagine our sheer delight to have another constant in the rotation like this that brings an ideal modern touch to the scenario.
