Bluenose B accomplish greatness on all new record, "Harrowby Road"
Review by Austin Sher
Set to release early February, Bluenose B has released his long awaited full length album, Harrowby Road. We’re loving it! Read along with us for our full review of the record, in addition to a brief bio on the artist as well.
Bluenose B is the project of singer and songwriter, Stephen Lawson. Over the years the band has experienced various line-up changes and changing style, however we think this record might just be their best yet. Gaining influence from artists like David Bowie, Prince, Talking Heads, Radiohead, and more, this album features it all.
With the release of the initial single “Another Place” seeing its release on December 11th, 2020, it’s been a countdown until the full album saw its release. Thankfully it’s well on its way to a global release and let us potentially be the first to say that it’s incredible.
At 12 songs in length, Bluenose B get the ability to show off their incredibly diverse amount of instrumentation. One of the best parts of this album is that each member brings so much of their own talent and uniqueness to their own respective sounds. In turn, there truly was not a dull moment in the entire listening experience. Normally on albums of this length and runtime there tends to be a fair amount of filler, however each song has its own purpose, theme, and story that it tells.
While it would be close to impossible to pick a favorite track off the album, we obviously had our favorites. In addition to the lead single, “Another Piece”, we were partial to the tracks “Rodeo Clown”, “Don’t Give Up Hope”, and “Dark Inside”. Now that’s not to say any of the rest of the album fell flat in any way, because it didn’t, but like any music you’ll always have your favorites. With that being said thought, we definitely recommend giving it a listen from start to finish, as the artists intended. It’s cohesive and tells a complete and compelling story throughout the entire album.
With so much experience under the collective artist’s belt, it’s not a surprise that they’ve come together to create absolute beauty on Harrowby Road. For a classic rock record with indie pop influences, this one is a true winner. We loved what we heard and will listening closely to whatever else the band releases in the future. Enjoy!
