Austin Markham shines bright on debut EP, "Me."
Incredibly introspective but beautiful in its execution, Austin Markham is here with his debut EP titled Me. that we’ve quickly grown to love. Keep reading for our full review of the record, in addition to a background on the artist.
Telling his stories of “turmoil, revealing personal hardships that have yielded profound impacts on the singer-songwriter”, Austin Markham has put together an instrumentally diverse EP and sincere piece of art titled Me. For an artist relatively new to the scene, he’s crafted up a completely memorable record that has many redeeming factors and has set a nice base for future projects. We’re overwhelmingly recommending you give it a listen as soon as you can.
On this 4 song EP, each song specifically deals with different facets of Austin’s life. For example, the opening track and lead single, “Look At Me Now,” expresses the dissonance between people’s expectations of us versus who we really are; this song embodies the triumph of self-confidence over self-doubt. As grand as all of the song’s sound from start to finish, so much of the love and passion comes through the lyrics side of things, which is why we definitely suggest you listen closely to connect all of the dots.
While the production and atmosphere created on the album are certainly worthy of note, the record by far is a perfect representation of Austin Markham’s vocals. In the mix and in the way everything sounds, we’re glad the effort of putting his sound up front was chosen as it changes the entire feel of the way the record flows. Another thing was just how cohesive of an album this really was. Each song could certainly be pulled off and stuck onto a playlist, however the listening experience from start to finish is one that we recommend you do. Everything flows seamlessly from moment to moment and is worth listening to it all in one go.
For a debut record, Austin has truly knocked this one out of the park. We’ve got no negatives to say in the slightest, rather more along the lines that we’re thrilled to see what comes out of him in the coming months and years.
