Arkayla preview their explosive debut single, "Calling Time"

Previewing their newest single “Calling Time”, out on March 31st, Arkayla have something special up their sleeves with this explosive new rocker. Keep reading as we share our thoughts on the track, in addition to a background on the band.

Made up of Cal Blakebrough (Vocals/Guitar), Finley Rubens (Guitar), Theo Savage (Bass), and Patrick Hanbury (Drums), Arkayla are a superb and emerging band currently based out of Manchester, England. Formed officially in 2020, they’ve been swiftly making waves within their scene, pulling from a wide variety of influences and inspirations, however they’re still effortlessly crafting a seriously unique sound to themselves. On their newest, “Calling Time”, they’ve simply put together a memorable piece of art that’s jam packed with energy, power, and a whole lot of creativity. Of course, we’re urging the world to enjoy it once it goes live on March 31st.

Not wasting a single moment before the song lifts off and immerses the listener, it immediately hits you in the face with its anthemic and expressive qualities. Though that can probably be attributed to the emotion packed in through the vocals, there’s also a ton of raw and diverse qualities emanating from the instrumentation. For us, the song feels completely well rounded in the sense that you could attempt to connect the dots within the lyricism on one listen and on the other hand, come back for a second and completely rock out to the instrumentals which are in a league of their own. Considering the band plans to debut this song at the Night and Day Cafe in close to a week, we honestly wish we could make it to see the crowd’s reaction.

Lyrically speaking, they’ve broken it down a bit in which they’ve said “the lyrics paint a picture of a person who is struggling to break free from a destructive relationship, even though they are being pulled back in by their own desire and longing”. It’s an all too common sentiment, and relatable quite frankly, yet it still feels like some of these lines are open to interpretation however you’re feeling in the moment. It undoubtedly adds to that well rounded feeling and fully puts Arkayla into the realm of serving up mature yet ultimately fun-sounding music. It’s a hard line to blend, but they’ve maneuvered the task with ease. We’re so excited for the world to enjoy this on the 31st.

In the meantime, go ahead and give them a follow on Instagram in order to keep up with all the latest news. Enjoy!
