ambrosial reaches new heights on relatable new single, "someone like u"
Finishing up her year with another stellar single titled “someone like u”, the artist known as ambrosial may have just saved her best for last. Keep reading as we share our complete thoughts on the track, as well as an update on what she’s been up to.
Nearly six months after our glowing review of “rotting on the vine” and ambrosial has shown no signs of slowing down in the slightest. Always pushing her creativity and continuing to carve out something incredibly special for herself, her newest single “someone like u” is a vulnerable yet sonically impressive song that’s been stuck in our heads since it was sent over. If you’re out of the loop on ambrosial, she’s a 25 year old artist currently based out of Boston, continually putting together an inspired mix of dream pop, but with plenty of her own essence and personality too. On the background of “someone like u”, she’s stated this one is for “the lover girls who get so caught up in the dizzying euphoria of romance that they lose perspective of who that person really is”. Male, female, or whatever you identify as, we can 100% relate with that sentiment of letting your emotions take over logic at some point. In this scenario though, she’s effortlessly strung together vivid lyricism to paint a picture of this all too common situation.
Instrumentally though, and perhaps vocally the most, that’s where this song shines the brightest. Typically in the dream pop genre, the vocals tend to quite sunken in the production, but the fact that ambrosial’s mood setting voice is up front and center was a welcome surprise. Her range and versatility sets the tone from the opening notes and really the subtleties happening in the background give this one pizzazz as well. Through three minutes of runtime, she manages to introduce complex ideas and motifs, furthering her sound as a whole, and continuing to pave the way for more greatness in 2023.
