Released at the perfect time for these hot weather months, Alex Slay and Clover Jamez have come together for a smooth jam they’ve titled “Marathon”. Keep reading for our glowing review of the track, in addition to a background on these emerging artists.
Each making a name for themselves within their respective scene has ultimately led to one of our favorite collaborations of the year, a single titled “Marathon” coming from Alex Slay and Clover Jamez. Through laid back grooves, silky smooth vocals, and a whole lot of love coming through in the mix, it’s one of those songs that instantly makes your ears perk up. Needless to say, it’s a track we’re recommending to everyone out there with taste.
Both currently based out of Nashville, this collaboration’s lyricism can be directly attributed to the grind mindset and to keep your head down when those situations get difficult. Alluding to the “marathon” that is life, Slay dedicates this one to all the creatives out there because he knows “a lot of us go through these phases where we feel like nothing is working and we want to give up”. Preach Alex, we know exactly what you mean and it’s so nice to have it be realized within music. So much of the greatness within the song obviously comes from its message, but it’s the sincerity within each artist’s vocals that act as the cherry on top to a powerful sentiment.
So often when one thinks of Nashville, they go straight to country, but the R&B scene in the city is burgeoning at the moment too. Alex and Clover are delicately crafting and fine tuning the music that they’re individually making, but have acted as each other's yin and yang to create this song that alludes to decades past. It does such a fine job of taking the elements of 90’s R&B and infusing it with the modern, particularly through the subtleties in production and shimmery effects. Add in the sensual feelings and funk-like bass lines and that right there’s the recipe for success. It should probably go without saying that we’re going to urge everyone to listen once again, but also a reminder to check out each artist’s discography individually, there’s a ton of gems to be discovered.
