Officially debuted on February 12th, 2021, Alex Darian has shared his newest cover, “If You’re Not The One”. Please read along with us as we break down our thoughts on the track, in addition to a background on the artist as well.

Daniel Bedingfield would be proud, because Alex Darian’s cover of “If You’re Not The One” is a lovely and faithful homage to the early 2000’s classic. As Alex pulls from his influences such as Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Freddie Mercury, and more, he’s successfully put his own spin on things with this well produced single.

For those unaware, Alex Darian is an upcoming pop artist, currently based out of Los Angeles, California, but originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Gaining experience from performing in his local community choir and attending a theater program before moving back to the USA, he moved to LA and enrolled himself into The Los Angeles Film/Recording School to study music production.

For us, “If You’re Not The One” was one of the more memorable things coming out of the early 2000’s, so it was quite the joy when Alex’s version came across our table. Keeping things similar enough to the original, the artist still managed to tackle an extremely difficult song vocally and productionally. We have to commend him on the valiant effort he put toward this as it truly is a song that expects high expectations of those who attempt it.

As much as we loved it though, it then goes on to beg the question, will we hear any Alex Darian originals anytime soon? Looking at his artist profiles and seeing that they’re lacking originals, we’ll let the artist know right now that we’d love to hear something coming from him at the end of the year. No rush to the artist as we know these things take time, so we’ll just listen to the cover for now.

If you happen to be unfamiliar with both Daniel and Alex’s version though, we highly recommend listening to them back to back to really gain the overall feel. Starting with Daniel’s version and transitioning to Alex’s would be ideal for the full experience.

Wrapping it up, we really did enjoy this version of “If You’re Not The One”. Alex managed to nail the overall feel of the song’s emotion, and with Valentine’s Day being tomorrow as we’re writing this, it’s the perfect song to reflect on. For now, enjoy!
