Aidan Whitaker shares his powerhouse EP, "This Wondrous Impermanence"
Releasing officially on February 3rd, 2023, Aidan Whitaker was kind enough to send us a preview of his EP This Wondrous Impermanence and we can confidently confirm it has surpassed all expectations. Keep reading as we break down our thoughts on the record.
Showcasing and highlighting his seemingly infinite talents as a singer, songwriter, poet, composer, and guitarist, it’s quickly come to realize that Aidan Whitaker can pull off even the most complicated of musical tasks. His newest EP This Wondrous Impermanence immediately comes off as an insightful and cohesive work that focuses intently on imagery-filled lyricism and the expressive nature of his lofty vocals. We love this and cannot wait for release day in order for everyone out there to give this a spin.
On the background of this EP, ultimately Aidan has said that it “represents a culmination of my time in my 20's and everything I learned about how to turn my emotions into music. It's a turning point, as I narrow down what my sound is, what my strengths and weaknesses are as a person”. Truly from beginning to end, the artist does an immaculate job of somehow communicating his own personal experiences, yet leaving the door open for all to find relatable moments in the mix. There’s so many things to point out, but stylistically speaking, we loved the juxtaposition between straightforward songs and the switch to spoken word poetry. Not only did it provide a wonderful break from the songs, but also a chance for the artist to show off his breadth of talent. Considering he’s got 7 more singles slated for release in 2023, we’ve got a strong feeling there’s a lot more experimentation on the way.
Somewhere between straightforward singer songwriter tunes, midwest emo allure, and everything in between, Aidan Whitaker has struck a chord in us with his diversity and prowess to explore his strengths. It should almost go without saying, but the rawness and sheer emotion displayed is cranked up to a 10 as every song surpasses the suspense and drama of the last. Not only do you get to learn about a stranger, but instrumentally speaking we adore the stripped back nature of basically just having a guitar and vocals. It goes to show things don’t need to be flashy to be impressive, which is where Aidan shines the brightest.
While we await the release, go ahead and familiarize yourselves with his work below, follow along, and of course keep up with all major news in the coming weeks and months.
