Act of Falling set the bar high on rocking new single, "Period"

Review by Austin Sher

Released on September 1st, 2020, Act of Falling are back with their first new single in nearly two years, titled “Period”. Read along with us as we deep dive into our thoughts on the track, as well as a bit of background on the band as well.

With a new album coming on September 15th, Act of Falling have certainly raised the bar high with the release of “Period”. Having no prior experience or impression on the band’s music before listening to the single, we went in blind, and came out super fans. This was just the right type of sound we were looking for in terms of pure rock and roll. In addition to loving the song, the band’s lead gave us a bit of insight into the background of the song.

Act of Falling’s lead singer, Bobby Miller, has never shied away from opening up about his past, a time shrouded in the darkness of drug use. Now, with over seven years of sobriety under his belt, he can’t help but feel a sense of guilt over the ones he left behind. “Period”, the first single off of the band’s upcoming album, is an homage and a farewell to a friend who lost his life to the disease of addiction. Childhood friends, they had stumbled and fallen into that darkness together, bonded in despair. When Bobby’s eventual recovery formed a chasm in their relationship, it was their mutual love of music that allowed them to rebuild it in a new way. On the night of his death, he sent Bobby one final message — “."

With the background on the history of the music, it makes it all the more hard hitting and really makes you think. As much as the music and instrumentation fill the room, there’s always the backstory to drive it home.

Speaking of the instrumentation, every member of AOF absolutely crushed their individual performances on “Period”. You’ll find big booming drums, inventive guitar riffs, catchy bass lines, and so much more. Even experiencing a touch of keyboards and synthesizer was a nice touch during the middle to make things interesting. We couldn’t get through the review without mentioning Bobby’s clean yet emotional vocals, they just fit the song so incredibly well.

If “Period” is a taste of what’s to come, then we can confidently say we’re excited for September 15th. For all things Act of Falling, to listen to “Period”, and to keep up with all the band’s future releases and information, please check out the following links below.
