Tame Impala to be musical guest on Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Article by Austin Sher

Calling all Tame Impala fans who also love comedic genius, Stephen Colbert. Kevin Parker will be the musical guest on tonight’s episode (5/11/20) of Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

In the age of “At Home” episodes of late night talk shows, grabbing mega stars such as Kevin Parker is still considered to be a massive deal. The pressure is on for artists to continue to get their names out there and agree to as many appearances as possible, considering 100% of today’s artists tours have been cancelled.

Considering Parker is still extremely fresh off the release of his 4th LP, The Slow Rush, getting those brand new and spectacular tracks out to the public, even non-traditional acoustic versions, is a necessity for smaller audiences who aren’t as familiar with his work. The “At Home” episodes of Colbert’s show have been airing directly on CBS’ app, CBS.tv, but you can fully expect that his performance should be up on YouTube by tonight. As for which song Parker will perform, I truly hope that it’s another acoustic version of a deep cut on The Slow Rush. Parker has been regularly playing virtually streamed festivals over the past month or so and even featured a beautiful rendition of “On Track” that gave new meaning and breathed new air into that heavy hitter song.

Personally speaking, giving artists an outlet to not only perform, but continue on their press tours has been paramount in keeping some semblance of income coming into struggling artists’ pockets. Parker may not be considered as a struggling artist at this point in his massive career, but seeing as other Late Night shows have consistently been bringing on unknown talents since quarantine hit, it really goes to show that the music will live on in one way or another, no matter the situation.

We’re truly looking forward to tonight’s performance! Check out Late Night’s YouTube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMtFAi84ehTSYSE9XoHefig) sometime tonight for it to be uploaded in its full glory. Enjoy!
