Pearl Charles talks "Magic Mirror" and details its record process

Interview by Austin Sher

Released on January 15th, 2021, Pearl Charles has added yet another beauty to her discography, in the form of her all new album Magic Mirror. Following up our conversation from last July, we sat with Pearl to talk all about the process of its creation and so much more. You can watch our full interview here:

It was difficult to follow up 2018’s Sleepless Dreamer, but somehow Pearl Charles topped herself with the release of Magic Mirror. While we’d love for you all to watch our detailed interview, Pearl spilled it all on the album’s production, what she’s been up to over the past year, and the release of potentially even more music coming sometime in 2021.

If this happens to be your first dive into this artist’s music, you’ve discovered her at the perfect time in her career. Blending 80’s-esque sounds reminiscent of ABBA, in addition to smooth sounding Americana tunes as well, this is an artist we implore you to keep an eye on for years to come. While she’s got her own signature style locked down for the most part, she continues to surprise and impress on each subsequent release.

One of the best things about this album is its overall cohesiveness from start to finish, but also the ability to cherry pick singles for specific mood listening. The album opener “Only For Tonight” is a track you could dance in your own magic mirror to, or you could slow things down and look within on tracks like “Imposter” or “Don’t Feel Like Myself”. Whatever feeling you’re trying to evoke, whether it be high energy or a bit of reflectiveness, Magic Mirror has got you covered.

Lastly, for all the vinyl lovers and collectors out there, she’s got an all new pressing just released from Kanine Records called the “Purple Blast Light” edition. We were lucky enough to score the swirly blue pre-order, which is a real beauty, however we’ve got our eyes on all new editions that are soon to come out. If it’s not sold out already, get on it!
