As his fourth studio album Are You Haunted? prepares for release on February 18th, 2022, we were beyond thrilled to bring in front man Jake Webb for a full interview to discuss the record and so much more. Check out our interview below.

If you’re somehow out of the loop on one of the most underrated bands in Indie Rock, Methyl Ethel is the project of solo extraordinaire, Jake Webb. Being released via Future Classic on 2/18/22, Are You Haunted? serves as his fourth record that is already shaping up to be an instant classic. The singles so far, including “Proof” feat. Stella Donnelly, have been nothing short of magnificent and our interview with the artist really expounded on the big things he’s been up to over the last couple of years.

You might be thinking to yourself, how has this person released four albums so far and I’ve yet to listen to any? Well, let us confidently point you in the direction of some of our favorites which include 2017’s Everything Is Forgotten and as of more recently, 2019’s Triage. As we openly fangirled about during our interview, one of our favorite parts of Methyl Ethel’s music besides Jake’s exotic vocals is the production that always aims to one up itself. Specifically, songs like “Femme Maison/One Man House” and “Scream Whole” will blow your mind in every sense of the word.

As for this record that’s on the way, Jake says it’s about being haunted. What does that mean exactly? Well, “Yes, you’re haunted. We all are, and the real question is: what do we do with our hauntings?”. Ultimately it’s a rhetorical question that will most likely uncover itself after multiple listens of the album. The lyricism on Jake’s work is always next level amazing with words that only a poet could come up, so we’ve got no doubts in our mind the remaining ⅔ of the record that hasn’t been released will say a lot.
