The Dandy Warhols Bring the Boogie at Austin's Levitation Festival
Portland, Oregon band, The Dandy Warhols delivered a hauntingly spirited performance at The Far Out Lounge for Levitation festival this past weekend. Members of the 90’s psychedelic power pop group stole the stage with their matching festive skeleton costumes. Long-time fans, new fans and those passing through were all excited to see the group perform.
Tossing out a mix of old and new tracks, the band played much-loved songs “Bohemian Like You”, “Styggo” and “Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth”. Lead vocalist and guitarist, Courtney Taylor Taylor's cool demeanor and keyboardist, percussionist and occasional bassist, Zia McCabe’s non-stop dance moves meshed perfectly to form an equilibrium.
Taylor-Taylor commented on the third song of the night being about living in the 90’s and the fourth song being about living anywhere in the 2000’s. Times have changed in the music industry, especially since the bands initial jump into the music scene. They have an impressive amount of recorded music, spanning across seventeen albums. Towards the end of the night, the band hinted at a new single being released soon.
McCabe delivered a bone-chilling synth solo towards the end of the set, mesmerizing the crowd and Taylor-Taylor delivered primal sounding vocals. This band really tests the limits of what is possible and isn’t afraid to escape the box to jump into experimental waters. Whether you’re craving nostalgia or looking for something to shake to, The Dandy Warhols are one to put on an unforgettable concert.
