Shambhala 2024: Where Music and Nature Collide

Deep in the Kootenay Mountains of British Columbia, a sonic paradise is preparing to bloom. A gathering of 20,000, like moths to a neon flame, coming together as one. In spaces of unity like this, we find ourselves. But it’s the unique touch Shambhala brings that crowns it as an experience like no other. Taking place this year between July 26th to the 29th, we can’t wait to tell you more about it below.

Of course, you can always count on SMF for a 5-star lineup, from start to finish. (If you haven’t read the 2024 program by now, stop here to take a look!) With 6 stages and over 200 artists featuring bass, house, techno, and beyond, no matter your music taste, you will be satisfied. Although the details that make this music festival so special are not only what you see on paper (like the fact that it’s a dry festival or that you’ll see no corporate sponsorships). No, what really sets it apart from the rest is the deep inclusivity and connection you find there, with a diverse array of workshops, movement and wellness activities, art installations, and cultural experiences that celebrate the rich tapestry of human expression. Whether you're a seasoned festival-goer or a first-time adventurer, Shambhala Music Festival promises an enchanting journey that transcends the ordinary and ignites the soul.

While getting lost in this wonderland, be sure to keep an eye out for these few of the many enthralling exhibitions and performances: the Pride Parade, BASScamp art gallery, the Wedding Chapel (where you and your ravebae can tie the knot!), or if you’re looking to get a little more spiritual, don’t miss The Wish Tree, the Yoga Garden, or the “Lightcode” meditation set by LSDream, just one of many breathtaking environments to find inner balance. Even the festival's swimming area in the Salmo River has a stage, further proving that no matter where you are or what you’re doing, you’ll be having a good time.

Unfortunately, one of the elements that make Shambhala unique is that no matter how much you read the schedule or map, you’ll never know all the opportunities that lie ahead until you find them! This is all thanks to the festival's welcoming outlook on unofficial events and community-led projects; a rare thing to see in our modern-commercial world. Just one of the endless reasons Shambhala takes place as one of the longest-running EDM festivals in North America; its rich history dates back to humble beginnings in 1998, with many attendees returning “home” annually like clockwork, some for decades. And while I wish I had seen it sooner, I’m thankful to see the beauty it’s grown to become.
