Goose Deliver Best Show of the Weekend at Austin City Limits

It has been years upon years since a band like this has had such an intense impact on us in such a short time. This past weekend at Austin City Limits, Goose stepped onto the Barton Springs stage for one of the most intense and uplifting performances we’ve ever seen in our lives, seriously. Please read on for our full review of the set below.

Considering the band’s album Dripfield released this year quickly rose to the top of our personal ranks for album of the year, we’re not surprised in the slightest that it was just as great live. We’ve heard all the similar rumblings of “Goose is the next Phish”, etc., but honestly they’ve become a thing of their own. Even having the opportunity to speak with fellow festival goers prior to the show was a major standout in what made the show so great, they were as amped as we were. We celebrated a man’s 60th birthday that day and his 27th Goose show as he went absolutely nuts as they took the stage.

As for the music, well, there isn’t much to say besides they put on one hell of a show. They kicked it off with the first two tracks off Dripfield, but “Hungersite” was easily our favorite and a real contender for song of the year. What we weren’t expecting was the literal 20 minute jam that just kept going and going and going and wouldn’t stop, which turned out to be the most amazing thing ever. Looking around, attendees were losing themselves in the music, flailing and waving as the power of the drums and guitar flowed through their energized bodies. Right when you think that the song might just end, they would rip into another show stopping jam. We’ve learned that they usually play around three hour shows, so to see them play for only 75 minutes was not nearly enough to really see the band let loose.

Immediately after the show ended, we texted all of our like-minded friends to let them know if Goose comes to your town, do not miss it! We already know they’re going to become a staple band whenever they come to town, it was just that mesmerizing. If you’ve yet to enjoy their music in any capacity, we highly recommend you explore their deep discography as soon as you can. Enjoy!
