Daisy Grenade Got The Crowd Sweating During Sad Summer’s Stop in Clearwater
Daisy Grenade is a grunge-pop duo made up of two female powerhouse vocalists: Dani Nigro and Keaton Whittaker, more like Charli xcx and Cyndi Lauper. Their look, performance, attitude is the full package and they put on quite an entertaining show during their Sad Summer Festival set at The BayCare Sound in Clearwater, Florida.
Over the course of their 2 year career, they have already opened for Fall Out Boy and played the legendary So What? Music Festival. This duo out of New York City has taken the punk/ grunge genre by the horns, as they are now on the Sad Summer Festival Tour.
Nigro and Whittaker came out with a bang, with their songs “Sick In The City” and “Are You Scared Of Me Yet?,” on their 2023 EP, Cult Classic. These tracks, along with the rest of their discography would best be described as what goes through a girl’s head when she has revenge on the mind, or if Olivia Rodrigo was edgy and explicit. The way these feelings are presented however, is powerful, yet catchy enough to make you want to dance.
They continued their set with “Got It Bad” and “Riot,” also off of Cult Classic, which began to incorporate the rest of the band in their antics. Nigro and Whittaker were passing their mics to their bandmates on beat, every other word during “Riot,” which fits the song well.
Although Daisy Grenade has only been releasing music since 2022, they have really honed in on a unique sound they call “bubblegrunge.” Their discography is based on female angst and rage. Although this is not a unique concept, the way it is presented truly is. Daisy Grenade is the type of band that will get anyone moving, even if they don’t know their music. Their live set was captivating and jaw-dropping. Nigro even surprised the crowd with her screaming abilities.
Later on in their set, Daisy Grenade played a cover of “King For A Day” by Pierce the Veil and Kellin Quinn. After the first couple notes, the crowd knew exactly what they were in for, but it was surprising nonetheless. Singer Dani Nigro’s ability to scream Vic Fuentes’ parts in that song is commendable and that song is the perfect choice to cover for the crowd they were presented with. Although many if not most people in the crowd were not familiar with their music, this cover got everyone even more engaged.
Daisy Grenade wrapped up their Sad Summer set with their latest single, “Hypocrite.” This new song, released in June, resembles the rest of their discography; a grunge-pop sound, paired with an easy to sing along to chorus. During the chorus of the song, the singers had the crowd spell out “Hypocrite,” which again had the crowd involved in their performance.
Overall, Daisy Grenade did not put on a live show; it was an experience. Even if you don’t know their music, they welcome you, get you engaged and have you sweating by the time they run off stage with the same energy they ran on with.
Daisy Grenade is currently touring across the US with Sad Summer until August 9. Listen to Daisy Grenade’s set and get ready to dance!
