Beach House Transcend Sound During Desert Daze 2022
Although Iggy Pop and his immensely talented band would’ve been a great headliner, Beach House stepped up to the occasion on Sunday night for a truly magical set at Desert Daze. We were there front and center to recount the night, so please read on for our full review of the event below.
After a tumultuous weekend of endless sweating, dancing, and experiencing the best bands in the world, we can think of almost no better act to give us the chill vibes we all desperately needed. Playing around an hour and a half during the 10PM time slot, Beach House got on stage to an absolutely packed stage of eager festival goers waiting to hear their dreamy tunes and to float away on a cloud. Playing a literal career spanning set list, but with an emphasis on their latest double record Once Twice Melody, we were so beyond thrilled to finally get to hear those songs in a live setting. To no surprise, they hit incredibly hard and with the light show added, it was pure perfection.
Of course it wouldn’t be a complete Beach House set without all the now classics, specifically our personal favorite “PPP” off of Depression Cherry. There are very few songs in this world that we can so effortlessly get lost in, but that one in particular is a cavalcade of sound and atmosphere that come together to form an ideal harmony. While we did experience some loud talkers in the crowd, which is insane, for the most part the crowd was super into what was happening in front of them. We conversed prior to the set with other attendees about how they’d wish they’d seen them in the past but could never really get into their music, however after seeing it all go down, they claimed themselves as newfound fans.
Ending the set with a fairly even mix of tracks off of 7, Bloom, Teen Dream, and beyond, we couldn’t have picked a better setlist if we’d tried. Victoria’s voice is as crisp as ever and there’s always something special about their stripped back style to really create that awe-inspiring sense of calm. If for whatever reason you’ve never let the music of Beach House into your life, what have you been waiting for, get into them immediately!
