Ty Segall Pops Up At Santa Monica Beach To Perform "Hello, Hi"
I was scrolling through instagram for the hundredth time early yesterday afternoon when I stumbled across a post from California garage rock God Ty Segall with this caption, “Hello, hi! I’m playing my new record (solo acoustic style) on the beach in Santa Monica today at 2:30 PM! Come check it out if you like…”
After my heart chilled out a bit and I sent the post to any friends that might be able to go, I plugged in my camera’s battery and waited to head over to the beach when the time was right. It was a beautiful Los Angeles afternoon with a light breeze, 75 degrees, and lots of tourists and locals abound! I walk up to the group of palm trees grouped together in the sand where Ty has already been playing for several minutes (thanks traffic!). All mic’d up and looking like things are being recorded, Ty’s new songs sound beautiful.
Picking up lots of themes of love and relationships from his lyrics, his guitar is ever flowing with subtle and beautiful chord patterns and riffs. He is still figuring out how to do some of the songs live which lead to some incredibly endearing moments but time is fleeting and 45ish minutes later Ty is done playing. As always he hangs around after playing to sign things and take photos with fans as they tell him how much they mean to him.
With the record now out and released today, we’re urging everyone out there to continue to support Ty Segall, a paramount figure within the indie music scene. You must click the link below to give Hello, Hi a proper listen. Enjoy!
