La Luz Light Up the Stage at LA's Regent Theatre
Making their way to The Regent Theatre in Los Angeles for a night of greatness, La Luz stepped on stage and immediately commanded the audience with their bright tunes. Luckily, we were there front and center to recount the night, so please enjoy our full review and photo gallery below.
The days leading up to the launch of the holiday season is a stressful time for most of us and when I'm stressed one of my mantras for calming down comes from one of the only cops I like, Agent Dale Cooper of the F.B.I., “Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.” Now I am not a coffee person and taking a nap in a chair usually screws up my neck but you wanna guess what does the trick? Need a hint? You got it! Concerts!! Nothing like a communal musical experience to group you in your reality and remind you how amazing surf guitar is.
Hardly Art Records’ and Los Angeles’s psychedelic surf rock darlings La Luz took the stage while the room filled with dank smoke coming from all sides, calm and serene. All of the room's glassy eyes looking at the hand painted stars adorned on the stage's curtain as a beautiful stream of rainbow lights awash the stage as the reverb from the instruments starts to hum. Lead singer and guitarists Shana Cleveland adorned herself with her strat and started off warming up the rooms ears with some breezy reverb drenched surf guitar plucking when suddenly the bands beautiful singing harmonies are cued by Shana, keyboardist/singer Alice Sandahl, and bassist/singer Lena Simon. With the bands most recent addition to the lineup drummer Audrey Johnson really holding down the groove as we hope between big raucous waves and being gently rocked by low tide coming in (They even had a soul train line!). La Luz is one of the most criminally underrated bands going today, please buy their records and catch them live whenever they hit the road again.
If they happen to make it to a city near you, don’t think twice, grab a ticket and head out immediately!
