Kurt Vile Unveils (watch my moves) at The Observatory in Orange County
Fresh off the release of his 9th full length record, (watch my moves), Kurt Vile and his immensely talented band made their way into The Observatory in Orange County, California for a career spanning set that legitimately left us speechless by the end. We were there right in the front to recount and document the night, so please check out our review and photo gallery below to relive it all.
It’s a question we often ask in our interviews to artists like Kurt, but how does one craft a setlist with 9 records out. You’re always going to leave a diehard fan wanting something from earlier in their discography, but at the same time, we can only imagine the band is proud of their newest albums and accomplishments. With that all being said, Kurt and company managed to toe the line perfectly and delivered all the hits through an energy packed performance from start to finish. While we heard plenty debuts off of (watch my moves), the crowd certainly felt the loudest during tracks off of Bottle It In, b’lieve i’m goin down…, and even Wakin On A Pretty Daze.
While it should come as no surprise that Kurt Vile is a fantastic stage performer and has some witty banter, one of the coolest things to see at The Observatory was the diversity in attendance. You had ages ranging from teens all the way up to men and women in presumably their 60’s or 70’s, all singing the same lyrics and dancing the night away. Kurt’s music is so versatilite in that way because of his consistent genre bending that he’s managed to amass an audience filled with everyone. If last night was any consolation, it seemed as though there were smiles on everyone’s faces no matter where you were standing. Besides the band being incredibly grateful to be there and infusing that passion into their individual performances, there was an unspoken intimacy that we were all witnessing something special at the same time.
We could hardly keep track of all the isolated songs being played as we were basically hypnotized by the performance, but a quick Google search should let you know exactly what was played. Kurt and company are currently on tour with a stop in Los Angeles at The Theatre at Ace Hotel tonight, but even if you’re not located in LA, we highly recommend checking him out on this album cycle. Additionally, we’ve included all the important links below in order to listen, follow along, and to keep up with all the necessary information. Don’t forget to check out our photo gallery too!
