Jordana Enchants the Crowd Before (and During!) TV Girl at LA's The Wiltern

Jordana took the stage at The Wiltern before TV Girl this past Tuesday night. This isn’t her first time joining TV Girl on tour as she previously toured with the band in 2021, which led to their beloved collaboration album, Summer’s Over. The indie pop crowd-pleaser hit the road with them again in Fall 2023 and is back to celebrate the anniversary of French Exit.

As the lights went down and chatter subsided, Jordana walked on stage in a puffy white dress; she gleefully waved to the fans cheering her on. Flashing a grin to the crowd, she began to play Go Slow, a single from her 2022 album Face The Wall. The song was apt to open her set with because of its upbeat tempo and uplifting lyrics mirroring an artist trying to break the ice. This was no problem for her, as all eyes were glued to the bedroom-pop singer and her surf-green Fender.

Perhaps Jordana should look into putting on stand-up comedy shows as a side hustle because, in addition to being a well-versed musical artist, she also caused uproarious laughter amongst the crowd. Reminding the audience of her collaboration album with TV Girl (though, let’s be honest, who could forget?), she introduced the title track Summer’s Over. Before playing the song, she gave a warning that an integral piece of the song would be missing - the beachy guitar riff - as TV Girl had yet to make their grand entrance. She began to play the bright, groovy melody and the crowd began to move like ocean waves. That’s when Jordana began to mimic the missing guitar riff, acapella-style. Needless to say, the crowd was amused.

Her last song of the set, she expressed, would be a cover from an English band. The familiar chords rang through the venue and gasps were heard amongst concert-goers: Sparks by Coldplay. As she sang the opening line, “Did I drive you away?”, it was clear that the atmosphere in the room had shifted. Eyes glazed over, Jordana’s voice cast a spell on the crowd. The room sank into a state of comfort, singing back to her, as sparkly lights lit up the theater.

The crowd was graced with her presence again as she joined TV Girl on stage as their guitarist. Having warmed up already, her energy was explosive and bold, often seen dancing and hopping around the stage. TV Girl began to play their song  Not Allowed and Jordana began to dance; Brad Petering, TV Girl vocalist, joined in and mimicked her movements. The choreographed dance ended with the two creating a heart shape with their arms.

After three nights at the Wiltern, Jordana will be taking a break until her Lollapalooza Aftershow with TV Girl on August 2nd. However, she recently released a new single, We Get By, which features a violin solo and seemingly mixes folk, country, and indie pop to create a summer slowdown hit. Be sure to keep an eye out for more new music and any shows that may be announced near you!
