HOMESHAKE Bring Their Good Vibes To OC's The Observatory

In the midst of their run of shows through California, we spent our Sunday night with HOMESHAKE as they made their way to The Observatory in Orange County. Spanning the band’s discography, but keeping a focus on 2021’s Under The Weather, we’ve got a full review and photo gallery that you can find below to help relive a lovely evening.

Opening the night up was one of Brainfeeder’s newest signings, Salami Rose Joe Louis, and wow did she bring an incredibly experimental mix of songs to the stage. We’ve had the opportunity to see her play with a band years back, but considering it was just her up there with loop pedals, multiple synthesizers, and her divine vocals, she set the tone for the night and proudly got the crowd going in anticipation of the main event. Not too long after, HOMESHAKE hit the stage and the crowd literally went wild. Although it was Mother’s Day, the band still packed The Observatory tight and it felt as though everyone was elbow to elbow with excitement.

We got to see HOMESHAKE co-headline a show with Mild High Club a few years back, so we knew what to expect, but over the years the show has continued to evolve in the best way possible. Just like his relaxing style of music, it’s never going to get too hype, but there’s always moments in his setlists that feature tracks such as “Every Single Thing” that provide a needed jolt of energy into the crowd. While most of the night we witnessed tons of swaying around and generally chill vibes all around, it’s difficult not to enjoy yourself at one of their shows.

Continuing on and spanning his catalog with the hits from Helium, Fresh Air, Midnight Snack, and other oddities, the band really did a wonderful job of keeping pace and playing to the crowd favorites. The band’s latest record Under The Weather was jam packed with memorable hits like “I Know I Know I Know” and “Vacuum”, and they absolutely hit harder in person than we ever could have imagined. Sometime in the future, we’d love to witness a set of theirs that feature albums being played all the way through. Each one embodies a very specific type of vibe and it would be so nice to see that happen one day. Additionally, watching it from a sofa recliner would be the cherry on top.

Regardless though, we had the best time grooving out to HOMESHAKE’s very niche style of sound and will undoubtedly be grabbing tickets the next time they make it to town. If for some reason you’ve yet to let their music into your life, please go ahead and check out all those links below, in addition to our full photo gallery.
