Fontaines D.C. Power Through "Skinty Fia" at LA's Regent Theater
Fresh off the release of their 3rd full length LP Skinty Fia, Fontaines D.C. made their way into The Regent Theater in Los Angeles for the first night of a sold out two show run. Considering it’s the band’s first US shows since they last toured Dogrel back in 2019, there was no possible way we were going to miss it! If for some reason you haven’t let the music of Fontaines D.C. enter your life, now’s your chance to put them at the top of your listening queue. Made up of Carlos O’Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan III (bass guitar), Grian Chatten (vocals) and Tom Coll (drums). Pumping out incredible tunes over the past few years, the band was formed in Dublin back in 2017 and their trajectory has been astronomical since. In fact, they were even nominated for a GRAMMY Award back in 2020 for A Hero’s Death.
With anticipation being at an all time high seeing as though these sets of shows have been sold out for weeks, the crowd was literally biting at the bit and we haven’t experienced energy at a show like that in quite some time. As their discography is continuing to build up at a rapid pace, they still managed to play a majority of the bigger “hits” off of Skinty Fia. Every track hit like dynamite and their energy levels never dipped once, but a serious overdrive washed over the crowd when they ripped into “Sha Sha Sha”, “A Hero’s Death”, and our favorite from the newest album, “Jackie Down The Line”.
One thing that we do need to point out that felt supremely underrated was the set listing and how they were able to so precisely ride the wave of emotion in the room. It feels as though nowadays acts all over the US front load their sets with the most popular tracks to evoke as much suspense in the room, but Fontaines D.C. sporadically would play some of their bigger tracks and revitalize the crowd within seconds. The back half of the set certainly felt like an explosion in sound and something we’ll remember forever.
