Danny Brown Brings "Quaranta" to the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in LA

Danny Brown: Detroit native, Rapper, and podcaster recently released his introspective experimental rap celebration of personal growth album, Quaranta released via Warp Records, pretty much right after releasing one of the 2020s best collaborative projects with fellow experimental rap pioneer JPEGMAFIA, Scaring The Hoes released on AWAL, earlier this year.

The dude has had a productive year that has taken his life and career to a whole other level between all of the previously mentioned projects this year and getting sober. I have been a Danny Brown fan since the release of his breakout mixtape, XXX on Fool’s Gold Records, and saw him for the first time perform at Coachella after the release of, Old also via Fool’s Gold, now do not get me wrong he was good live then but his rapping was not ever as close to as strong as he was this past weekend.

Danny was pacing up and down the Masonic Lodge’s intimate stage like a dripped out tiger spitting all of his beautifully complex bars about his life experiences almost perfectly. Only to stop between songs for some water, a hit of his vape, calling out the next song to his forever DJ and sometimes producer Skywlkr who also warmed up the crowd before Danny walked out. Danny opened the show with three songs from his new album, Quaranta, before going into some tracks from XXX and Old.

Making the songs sound and powerful and fun with just the strength of his voice. He then jumped into a medley of his verses from this year's Scaring The Hoes. Which of course made me wish that Peggy was there with us but at least we all got to hear Danny’s parts!! He closed out the rest of the show with several cuts from his older albums and a couple from the new with an ease that kept all of my sense glued on him until Danny announced that this was his last song and he won't be coming back no matter how hard they chant his name his green room is very far from the stage and that people need to stop bringing their records to the show, they deserve better care and he sees how much people are selling their signed records for and with that he sent the house into a fever with “Side B (Dope Song).

If you ever get the opportunity to see Danny, he’s currently delivering one of the most high powered and entertaining Hip Hop shows in the game. We urge you to grab a ticket or stream his records as soon as you can!
