Boygenius Debut "the record" & "the film" at El Rey Theatre Premiere Party
As if their newest album the record wasn’t enough, the supergroup of boygenius turned up to the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles last night to premiere their short film, the film, directed by Kristen Stewart. We got the wonderful opportunity to shoot the red carpet, ask questions to the band, and so much more. Enjoy our full review of the record below.
Boygenius, the supergroup comprised of indie rock stars Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus, have returned with their highly anticipated full-length album the record. And let me tell you, it does not disappoint. The album showcases the trio's individual strengths while also highlighting their undeniable chemistry and songwriting abilities. the record features twelve tracks that range from sparse and introspective to lush and anthemic, all anchored by the group's signature harmonies and thoughtful lyrics.
The album's true opener “$20”, sets the tone with its driving drums and soaring vocals, while "Not Strong Enough" channels '90s alternative rock with its distorted guitar riffs and catchy hooks. Throughout the album, each member takes turns leading the vocals, showcasing their unique style and perspective. The lyrics are honest, meaningful, and often heart-wrenching, dealing with topics such as love, loss, and the struggles of adulthood.
As for the film, well that’s a feat in its own that could only be made possible by the foresight and directorial capabilities of Kristen Stewart. She got up on stage at the El Rey to say her thanks, but then the group took over for a moderated Q&A that perfectly cleared up all the questions that the press and the audience had. We’ve got more on the way in terms of interviews, reviews, and more, so stay tuned!
the record is a stunning achievement that solidifies boygenius as one of the most exciting and talented groups in indie rock today. Fans of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus will find plenty to love here, but even those unfamiliar with their individual work will be captivated by the group's powerful harmonies, emotional depth, and undeniable talent. If you're looking for an album that will move you, inspire you, and stay with you long after the last note fades, look no further than the record
