Ashnikko Debuts "WEEDKILLER" at a Packed House of Blues Anaheim

Ashnikko made their stop at the House of Blues Anaheim on their biggest nationwide tour to date, WEEDKILLER, in support of their highly anticipated album release, on Sunday, October 29th, 2023. After skyrocketing to fame in 2019 with her viral track, “STUPID”, Ashnikko has been an ever-evolving queer icon who is impossible to look away from. Following the release of their album, WEEDKILLER (a 13-track staple piece to any ‘weird girl’s’ Spotify Wrapped) Ashnikko has proven that they are far beyond being just another viral hit. Creating a ‘dystopian fantasy’ playground for themselves, WEEDKILLER dissects themes touching on technology vs. nature, personal adversities, and our connection with the world surrounding us. Accumulating over 2.5 billion streams and counting, it’s clear that Ashnikko’s connection with her audience is special.

Her set began by emerging as a cyborg-esque figure out of the fog, being led by two accompanying dancers. This was one of those sets where the audience did not miss a single lyric from the first beat drop. The first song, You Make Me Sick!’, a single from WEEDKILLER, was the perfect way to set the tone of the evening’s journey. Each lyric packing a punch, concert-goers were buzzing from start to finish.

The evening began with Tommy Genesis, an experimental, Canadian rap powerhouse. Making a name for herself with her debut self-titled album in 2018, she has since toured with Charli XCX, Duo Lipa and Poppy, as well as being a key collaborator with artists like Lana Del Rey and JPEGMAFIA.

Genesis and Ashnikko made the perfect pair, completely grabbing the audience’s attention as she was crouching down, reaching out to fans at the barricade. If fans didn’t know her name before her set, they certainly left adding hits such as ‘a woman is a god’ and ‘peppermint’ onto their playlists.
