ALEXSUCKS Brings the Party to SLC's Legendary Kilby Court

What a night. ALEXSUCKS and Max Davis played their first show in Salt Lake City at Kilby Court over the weekend and left some lasting impressions on the whole audience. Exiting the venue I overheard groups of people talking about how much they loved the show and that they really needed to listen to more of the music that was played that night. This sold out show didn’t reach full capacity until about ten minutes before Alex hopped on stage. The audience stretched from the back of the venue to the side of the stage which usually gets blocked off for band or venue staff to help out if needed.

Here's the band for you: Alex Alvarez(Lead), Topgun (Bass), John Luther (Gruitar), and Ethan Demoulin (Drums).

Throughout the night there was one individual in the crowd that stuck out: giraffe hat man. But each person who attended made an impact on this show because of their investment into ALEXSUCKS. Everyone seemed like they had an attachment to the song being performed at that moment. Once an intro started, a group of boys towards the front all started jumping, patting each others backs getting ready for the personal show they performed while listening to the band play. Even the slower tempo songs created a little mosh pit on the floor.

Something that seems common is that there is generally one of an artists most popular songs that they end up strongly disliking, dare I say hate performing, ‘Warm Beers’ is Alex’s though flashlight stars lit up the room when he started the song. Closing up the number Alex said, “I f*cking hate that song but you guys singing it made me like it”. Not only did this statement make the crowd proud of themselves but the energy after grew stronger as well.

It was visible that Max and Alex had a good bond after seeing their interaction during Alex’s set. Max took his shirt off towards the end of his set, Alex did the same mid set -don't worry, this is important- and pressed up against the window where other people were watching the show. Once Alex saw his buddy, he got the cheesiest smile, chuckled, and went back to his set. What's striking about this is 1. ALEXSUCKS is an LA based band 2. It was thirty-something degrees outside with a flutter of snowflakes. Yes, it gets hot performing, but Utah is cold.

I don’t know what the pre-show rehearsal went but there were a few times that ALEXSUCKS John motioned to the audio tech to raise or lower the sound for his guitar, other than that and one other mic mishap, the tech throughout the show was amazing!

Closing out the show, before the encore, the band left through the back door telling the crowd that they better get loud when they leave leading into their entrance of the encore waving their hands up to get the crowd pumped for the last few songs. I can tell that the people in the audience of this show were all looking for a good time. Some people go to a show to simply listen but everyone at Kilby Court was jumping, taking pictures with their new found friends
