Displaying a wide variety of emotions, moods, and so much more, the artist known as Sage Phoenix has just shared their wonderful new EP, Forever. Luckily for us, got the chance to interview the artist to hear all about the record, so please enjoy our conversation below.

Currently holding down the music scene in Longview, Texas, Sage Phoenix is a 22 year old queer singer and songwriter who’s simply blown us away with their efforts on their debut EP, Forever. Having been in the making for quite some time, you can quickly feel the bursting amount of love and passion that’s been infused into this wildly diverse and fusion-filled record. Listeners can expect an inspired blend of R&B, synthpop, and that signature essence that essentially makes it feel so special.

Coming in at a total of four tracks that span right around 14 minutes, Sage offers up a sincere smattering of different ideas, sights, sounds, and styles. Yes there’s tons of experimentation that bring unique and memorable moments, but so much of this that stood out to us was that there wasn’t a single moment that felt it was lacking or dull. There’s certainly some more upbeat moments on tracks like “Make You Mine”, but Sage also has the versatility and ability to bring things down, especially on the slow jam and EP closer, “Without Your Love”. Accompanied by trap-inspired beats that add a touch of modern into this sort of nostalgic feeling record overall, the constant of everything comes from Sage’s voice that speaks truth.

While of course the instrumentals, vocals, and production rise to the occasion, a lot of this listening experience for us was amplified by the lyricism. Sage goes on to express themes that cover topics like “how we heal, create memories, and celebrate love”. Once you connect the dots to everything and realize just how personal of an endeavor this piece of art is, it brings more of a realness to the equation. For a debut EP from an emerging artist like Sage Phoenix, this has set the base for what we know is going to be a fruitful career. We can’t wait to see how they eventually follow this up and hopefully that time isn’t too long from now.
