Adding onto his already prolific discography with another piece of beauty, Paper Forest back with an all new EP titled glowbrain. We are loving it! Please read on for an in-depth look at the record, as well as a background on the artist.

From the mind of Sean Burdeaux has come his solo project called Paper Forest that’s been around since 2005. Currently based out of San Diego, California, his unique brand of catchy yet experimental tunes has done it again with a sensational EP called glowbrain. While the record certainly takes twists and turns both productionally and instrumentally, it really does come together at the end to become a complete cohesive listen. We’ve enjoyed it so much throughout our multiple listens and can’t wait for everyone to click the play button.

Coming in at 5 total tracks, spanning right around 11 minutes, it’s a relatively quick listen, but absolutely jam packed with memorable moments. Instantly we made the connection to an early Animal Collective due to the layered textures and overwhelming of the senses, but throughout glowbrain, it did chill out a bit and never became too much. Each song serves as its own little world of atmosphere and flows effortlessly, but probably the most underrated part of this as a whole is the lyricism. Your attention is definitely thrown around by the diversity in instrumentation, but we urge everyone to actually try and make a connection because there’s some really profound lines being presented.

For the uninitiated, you’ll consider this to be given the broad generalization of “experimental”, and while it is in passages, we thought it also felt quite complete too. It varies wildly in the amount of instruments being used from banjos to synthesizers, but Sean has the ear and the vision to make it work. They’re 5 very different songs with their own motivations, but the more that we’ve come back and listened closely, the more new things we’ve heard. Speaking on the production, it’s got that lofi aesthetic that we love a ton, but it’s begging for everyone to listen to this with a nice pair of headphones to really take in the subtleties.

To be totally honest, you’d be much better off listening to this for yourselves because it’ll be a much better experience than reading about it! Go ahead and check out those links below to listen, follow along, and to keep up with everything else on the way from Paper Forest.
