Lola Menthol proves she can do it all on multi-genre EP, "Lo Lamento"
Review by Austin Sher
New York-based indie artist, Lola Menthol, proved she could do it all on her impeccable new EP, Lo Lamento. Read along with us for our full review and thoughts on the record, in addition to a short bio on the artist herself.
Based out of Yonkers, New York, Lola Menthol is an artist of pure self expression and an advocate for self healing through the creative process. According to the artist, she’s always had a passion for creation and finding her own forms of self expression. She’s focused on music and film, but also can get down with dance and painting as well. Lola is so very clearly a free spirit that knows what she wants in life, and she’s proven time and time again within her music that the best way to get it out, is through song.
On Lo Lamento, Lola touches on so many different popular genres that are happening within the music industry. At its base, it’s an indie pop record through and through, and a great one at that. As you listen on though, more and more genres start to influence the sound within the production such as the inclusion of heavy trap beats, hip hop, and even a glimmer of pop punk as well. For the undecided music listener who likes a bit of everything, look no further, because Lo Lamento is the record you should be listening to right now.
At a runtime of 19 minutes spanning 8 fully fleshed out tracks, the EP zooms by with anticipation of what will be discovered on the next song. As previously mentioned, it’s an indie pop record, but Lola proves she’s got flow within her brief rapping as well. Each song was a fun little surprise as to what was going to be uncovered and heard, but overall, we thoroughly enjoyed every song that came our way.
While this was our first foray into the music of Lola Menthol, it certainly will not be our last. In fact, you should definitely be looking out in the next few weeks for our review of her upcoming single, “Never Settle”, as we’re sure it’ll be a winner just like Lo Lamento was. With all that being said, it’s time to stop reading and start listening!
